A sphere segment
This Ring is a sphere segment of sixty centimeters in diameter made of a uniform and recurring ceramic paving. The latticework constituting this piece can be found in several of the artist’s works. The mesh, which could be considered as a ceramic cold weave, has the advantage of being simple and homogeneous.
It is very resistant and makes it possible to create an object with a sober and aesthetic design. All the elements of the remote-controlled electrical installation are hidden under the ring, between the two solid slate beams. These horizontally underline the design of the stone ring.
Following the example of the American artist Dan Flavin, the plastic artist integrates artificial light into his work in a contemporary way.

A law of orderly and periodic composition
Here, LED electroluminescent lamps replace the neon tubes generally used in installations. They do not diffuse iridescent light (halogen type) and are low energy consumption. Through the top of the crown, the ten blue lamps arranged in the lower part of the loop, and normal to it, project a monochrome lattice.
This specific illumination gives a certain breadth to the work. The color lattice thus obtained repeats itself infinitely and irradiates the surrounding vertical and horizontal planes. Remarkably, the artist anticipated this colored mesh by trigonometry.
Philippe Fares applies here a law of ordered and periodic composition to play with the central figure of his plastic preoccupation: the sphere. But this time it is truncated and enclosed between two parallel planes.
