Four halogen beams in central symmetry
C9 is the homothetic of Carbon 18 in a ratio of 0.625. It is thus a reduced format compared to the previous work. Apart from the size, the main difference between the two pieces lies in the integrated and remote-controlled lighting.
It consists of four halogen beams of blue color, placed tangentially to the atom and in a central symmetry. Going from red to blue, the iridescence obtained gives the object a powerful dynamism in its composition and a maximum of saturation.
Like C18, the artist wanted to rest the ball on its base through ceramic triangles. It thus seems as if suspended in the air.

A vibratory effect
Light traps are also installed all around the side of the base. Ventilation of the lamps is ensured and no light leakage appears at the periphery. Another point in common with C18: the base of the assembly is made of solid oak. The four recessed spotlights are adjustable and allow to modify the illumination of the sphere.
This design frees the object from its own light footprint. Carbone 9 asserts its position in space through projections on horizontal and vertical planes (floor, ceiling, walls). Philippe Fares envisions C9 as an abstract work, composed of ceramic splinters arranged on the surface of a sphere.
Beneath the cones of light, the orderly distribution of the elements creates a vibratory effect, a rhythm in the space. The square and collected shape of the base gives the whole a compact aspect, with a great organic solidity.
