Pointillism in 3D

C Color

Following the manner of divisionism, Philippe Fares used different colored lancets to cover the surface of a sphere of twenty-five centimeters in diameter. The tight, random, and regular distribution of these lances allows to obtain an effect of continuity between the colors, according to the distance where one observes the object.

The principle of manufacture is identical to the work 3-Spheres. It is a question of organizing in an extremely close way of the points of colors classified in seven categories. These correspond to the main ranges of the visible spectrum of sunlight.

In a way, this process can evoke the technique of pointillism initiated by Georges Seurat, but applied here in three dimensions. The points of color thus assembled cannot be discerned individually beyond a certain distance. They blend optically with each other.

A colored solid of revolution

Sculpture ciment couleur

The visual result is purer than a discreet application of paint. Indeed, the perceived mixture appears more contrasted because of the relief of the points of color arranged on the surface. This systemic option gives the work maximum saturation, power and beauty.

Unlike most of Philippe Fares’ sculptures, this piece does not have its own lighting. The plastician considered that this solid of colored revolution was self-sufficient.
Classically designed, C-COLOR’s display can be dissociated from the work and allows its installation on any flat surface.

It should be noted that this sphere is rather reduced in size compared to the sculptures that the artist usually makes. For Philippe Fares, it is a question here of adapting to the space available in today’s housing. Indeed, he considers that his works must find their full place there and be accessible to the greatest number.
