Immaterial monochrome surfaces
Following C18 and C9, Black Shards is a small sphere of twenty centimeters in diameter whose surface is covered with triangular ceramic splinters. These are organized in trestles formed of three right-angled triangles, juxtaposed as tightly as possible.
Eighteen electroluminescent lamps of blue tone are inserted in this solid of revolution. The receiver, the transformers and all the wiring of the diodes are enclosed inside the object. Only the power supply cable connected to the mains supply escapes from the remote-controlled installation.
In the dark, the projection of the blue beams on the walls and ceilings gives a certain relief to the work. The shadow cast by the opaque triangles, punctuated by the blue halo of the pixels, draws immaterial monochrome surfaces, with hollows and bumps.

A strong cohesion of the material
Weighted from the inside, the sculpture has no base: it is as if suspended in the air and rests on three sketches. With this perfectly balanced conception, the artist gives a great lightness to his creation.
Each point of the triangle can support a load of twenty kilograms. A weight of sixty kilograms would be needed to prevent the tripod support from yielding. In a way, this hardness and resistance is suggested by the blue light. Its homogeneity evokes a strong cohesion of the material at the molecular level.
It should be noted that this piece is rather reduced in size compared to the sculptures that the artist usually makes.
